Services

Mercenary Linux provides services hardening Linux systems, making them resistant to security attacks. We specialize in hardening using the AppArmor security system, and we will apply whatever additional tools are necessary to meet your goals.

Enterprises and End Users

We help you to deploy, configure, and maintain AppArmor and other security systems on your computing infrastructure.
  • Create, update, and maintain AppArmor profiles for your applications:
    • Standard Linux open source applications
    • 3rd party commercial ISV applications you have purchased and installed, or are considering
    • Custom in-house software you have created
  • Apply other security tools as necessary, such as IP Tables and Bastille Linux
  • Help to solve security problems you face

Software Vendors

Providing AppArmor profiles along with your applications to your customers greatly enhances the security of your products on any Linux platform that supports AppArmor. AppArmor is currently included by default in SUSE and Ubuntu Linux, and is available at the click of a button on Mandriva 2008. If a security vulnerability is discovered in your code, quite often an AppArmor profile will make that vulnerability unexploitable, allowing you to rate the security issue as "minor" on all AppArmor-supporting platforms.

Mercenary Linux will help you to create AppArmor profiles for your applications, enhancing the value of your products to your customers.

Embedded Product Vendors

If your product includes Linux in it (server appliances, set top boxes, cell phones, and even classic Linux distributions) then its value is enhanced by adding AppArmor security. It makes your product more secure, making it more valuable to customers. It is easier for you to secure your product with AppArmor than it is to audit all your code to assure zero vulnerabilities. And if a vulnerability is discovered, especially in 3rd party or open source software that you bundle, AppArmor protection often allows you to rate the vulnerability as "minor."

Mercenary Linux will help you to add AppArmor to your Linux-based product with these services:
  • Port AppArmor to your Linux-based products
  • Enhance AppArmor with new features per your specifications
  • Create, update, and maintain AppArmor profiles for the programs in your product
  • Integrate other security systems into your product
  • Create custom new security features for your product per your specifications
  • Help to solve security problems you face, designing new solutions

Education

Mercenary Linux can provide educational services on a variety of levels:
  • Training for your staff on
    • How to use and deploy AppArmor
    • Security in general
  • Evangelizing the security advantages your products
    • Direct to your customers
    • To public forums such as conferences
    • Especially with respect to security work that we have done for you

Security Design Review

Mercenary Linux has extensive experience in the security arena, and we can provide you with security design review for your Linux-based products, Linux-based products you are considering, and your computing infrastructure. Quite often the design review will recommend adding AppArmor, but that is because AppArmor is the easiest way to bring software close to the fundamental secure design principle of least privilege.
