Open Source

AppArmor is an open source project, licensed under the GPLv2 since January of 2006 when Novell released it as an open source project. AppArmor is likely to stay GPLv2 as long as the Linux kernel itself is GPLv2 because it is linked into the Linux kernel.

Mercenary Linux is an open source software business. We will do custom software development for our clients, delivering the code to you under the terms of the GPLv2. You are free, under GPLv2, to not distribute the code at all, but if you do distribute it you must comply with GPLv2.

Mercenary Linux hopes that by following this open source business model, we can benefit both our customers by delivering superior security technology at low cost, and the Linux community by contributing open source enhancements to AppArmor to the Linux community in general.

At this time, Mercenary Linux cooperates with Novell as the host of the Novell Forge code repository for AppArmor.

The easiest way to participate in the on-going open source development of AppArmor is to join the apparmor-dev mailing list (free Novell Forge registration required) and to join the irc.oftc.net/#apparmor IRC channel.
